The 101 names do not represent 101 different gods, but rather 101 attributes or epithets of the single, supreme God of Zoroastrianism, Ahura Mazda, first mentioned in the sacred texts of the Avesta. Later, these ephitets would appear in Islam as the 99 names of Allah, with either identical or modified meanings. The borrowing of epithets and concepts is also evident in ideas related to heaven, hell, and the afterlife, including notions of judgment, the resurrection of the dead, and the final cosmic battle between good and evil.
