Etymology
from PIE root sk̂ed- "to cover" with sense of "square shape, enclosed, four bars/stick",
A combination of two words çar/char (four) and dar/dor (angle, side), basically meaning "enclosed, surrounded, covered" which has similiar combination of most words starting with "çar" (four) such as: çarçove/çerçeve (four-side, surrounding), çarçev (frame), çarşef/çarşef (night cloth to cover, bedlinen) deriving from çadir-şev, çaralî (four-side), çarmîx (crucify, four nail), çarik (veil, headscarf), çarçik (square) etc.
